ProjectU: Passport to your Passion

The flight of ProjectU: Passport to your Passion was held at Baliuag University Sports and Cultural Gymnasium last August 5, after the installation of the 2nd President of the university, Dr. Patricia B. Lagunda. Prominent and well-known individuals were invited to share their words of wisdom, secrets in reaching success, and tips on overcaming hindrances. A week before the event, ProjectU already caught the students’ interests as the program was introduced to the different departments.

The program began with its first speaker, Mr. June Joson who is a seasoned community organizer, a youth leader, a skilled socio-political strategist, a Philippine history enthusiast, a passionate advocate of culture and arts and an astute small enterprise practitioner. He is the proprietor of Pambansang.com, a small enterprise that produces novelty shirts and items. He shared about finding out what your passion is. Students attentively listened to his sharing about how to find one’s passion.

The second speaker was Mr. JC Santos, a young successful business entrepreneur, self-made millionaire and a speech coach. His talk on “Overcoming Struggles” through his life stories and experiences taught the audience lessons on pursuing one’s passion despite obstacles and struggles. As he aptly stated, “You can overcome those struggles no matter what as long as you keep on pursuing what you’re passionate about.”

Another speaker was Mr. Jay Servito, a professional photographer for almost 10 years whose works include weddings, events, corporate, advertising and fashion photography. He is also currently working in BU as an instructor. Mr. Servito emphasizes that passion in what you’re doing will make you successful in life. He discussed that your future profession should not depend on the salary you will earn but rather on attaining happiness and enjoyment derived from what you are doing. He stated that he would not stay in the industry of photography if he did not love it.

Mr. Cyrill Tan, the author of Charlie Sparks, speaks about “Your Day Job is Not an Excuse to Pursue Your Passion”. Mr. Tan grew up in Bulacan and was a former student of BU. He found work as a personal banker in a leading foreign bank in the Philippines, where he is still currently employed. He ended up his speech with this quote “Seize the day because every day matters”.

Another speaker was Mr. Christian Jordan, BU’s Guidance Counselor and faculty, who dwelt on the topic “Do what you love, and love what you do.” Students roared and cheered as he stood up to speak. His humor added more interest to the program and engaged the students to listen even more. The most remarkable statements he gave were, “Don’t ever use someone’s past against them” and “MOVE ON”.

The final and the Keynote Speaker was Mr. Efren Penaflorida, the proponent of the “Kariton Klasrum”. He talked about his failures, and how these became his stepping stones to success. He also credited his mentor, Mr. KB. He also shared some inspirational quotes like, “Believe that you can!”, “If you want to reach your goal, hindi pwedeng, pwede na.”, “We have to learn to share our talents and victory because when we share it, we will have the joy na hindi mananakaw satin.” He showed videos about the “Kariton Klasrum” and how it captures the attention of the world by doing small acts of kindness in a society. After his speech, BU and Globe Telecom offers a helping hand and gave the Dynamic Teen Company a paycheck worth 35,000 pesos to fund its current and future endeavors.
